From the Vicar…
Dear Friends,
Today the morning preacher will be Brother Wayne of the Little Brothers of Francis, a small community of hermit brothers who live in northern New South Wales. Brother Wayne and Brother Geoffrey visited Christchurch at about this time last year, and some of you met them at a quiet day at S. Luke’s, and at a meal here in the hall. They seek to live a disciplined life of prayer, mostly alone and in silence, but meeting for worship and some meals. You will find more detail of interest on their website <www.franciscanhermitage.org>
At 4:30 pm next Sunday we shall have a visit from Dr Edric Baker, who will tell us about the work of his Kailakuri Clinic and related health care projects in Bangladesh. After his talk and discussion, there will be a simple meal of soup and bread before Evensong. All are invited.
By the time you read this, the Diocesan Synod will have met for two days and completed its business, under the presidency of our new Bishop. Your elected representatives are Tim Hill and Jocelyn Richards, and the Revd Lynne Horwood and Fr Bernard and I will be there. There don’t appear to be any greatly contentious issues this year, and we hope that under Bishop Victoria’s leadership there will be a strong sense of wise direction.
May God bless you all.
Peter Williams
