Dear Friends,
As we continue to celebrate the Easter season, we gather after Mass today for the Annual General Meeting of Parishioners. There will be a substantial morning tea in the hall, then the meeting will take place there. After the receiving and discussion of reports, we shall elect parish officers for the next year: a People’s Warden, a Vestry of about eight people, and two Synod Representatives (for a three-year term). Last year we were finished by one o’clock, and I hope that will be the case again this year.
Thank you to those who have served in various parish offices over the past year, and to those of you who are offering yourselves for service in this way for the year ahead. Those elected will be commissioned next Sunday.
On Wednesday the Bishop will be paying a visit to the School, beginning with the first School Mass of the new term. This will be a celebration of Easter. As always, you are all welcome to attend School Masses (8:40 am on Wednesdays).
I give notice to parents that we shall be preparing and baptising S. Michael’s School children in the third term. Please speak to the Revd Lynne Horwood if you have any enquiries about baptism. In due course a letter will be sent out to School families.
Next Sunday at the Sung Mass we shall baptise Rory Stephen Palmer, son of Stephen and Kara. Taryne Malaquin is the proud grandmother.
Next Sunday will be my last at S. Michael’s before I depart for nearly four months of sabbatical leave. Present with us will be Fr Tim Hurd, who will be serving in my place for most of the time that I am away. The Revd Lynne Horwood will be the official Priest-in-Charge and will exercise leadership along with the Wardens, but because of her already great responsibilities at the School, Fr Tim will oversee and conduct most of the Sunday worship and pastoral work. You will like him. And you will be in very good hands.
May God bless you all.
Peter Williams
